If you have ever made and designed your own software, you will have likely already leaed the lessons in this article. The same lessons can be applied to the businesses of most Inteet marketers.

The main lesson I leaed was that it does not matter how good your software product is, the quality of the product does not ensure its financial success.

Microsoft of course is an exception for a number of reasons. First off, Microsoft has always sold their product first to the computer retailer. Secondly, they have built the legal war chest to force businesses to pay for their products. They also have the war chest available to promote their products with tens or hundreds of millions of dollars.

My business is not a Microsoft and yours may not be either. So, we do not have the lock on selling our products as a necessity to the middle man, and we do not have the same kind of budget that Microsoft possesses. Even still, we should never ever give up on our hopes and dreams of success.

NEVER GIVE UP HOPE!

I am able to share this message with you from a position of experience.

See, I am a programmer of moderate knowledge. I have undertaken software projects on several levels while searching for that infamous pot-of-gold.

In the early, early days, I wrote three separate software packages for direct resale to the public. The first and second time, I supposed that it just was not the right package to get the attention of the public.

The third time out, I approached the project with the shareware attitude. I sold one copy of the package.

The fourth time out, I gave the software for free, but supported by ad revenue. Selling advertising on an unknown name is tougher than giving away the software. I gave away several hundred copies of the package, but did not sell a single ad lot, so I ended up serving my ads alone.

The fifth time around, I finally got a grip on the challenge. I had developed software for my own use, and thought others might like the package. I was right.

THE HARD, NAKED TRUTH

I could have offered the package for resale, but it was software that could only be used by a very tight niche market. There were only about 500 people who I suspected might be interested in the product as a stand-alone application.

If I sold the package for $100, I might could have made $50,000 on the product alone, but that is optimistic. At $100, I am willing to venture that my takers would have been fewer than 50 strong. So now, my gross eaings on the product may have been $5000.

Realistically, I would reach my largest market base at about $20 per user. If I could have tued that $20 on the 500 users, then my eaings would have been a maximum of $10,000 eaed on the product. Granted, that is not too shabby, but it is far from exceptional. It is definately not on the scale of Microsoft.

THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX

I finally realized that if I were to offer my software as a service, then I could resell the service to the same people over and again. By offering the product as a service, I could then insure that I would have a continuous source of income to spur the upgrades that are discovered to be needed down the road.

Over the last three years, I have tweaked and prodded the software to offer more and more value to the service and to increase the ability of my clients to get real value from my product/service.

My service is designed to help writers of free-reprint articles to get their articles delivered to ever-expanding groups of publishers who are looking for great content to reprint.

Since January of 2002, I have managed to triple the number of publishers and webmasters I am able to reach with my client's content. Along the way, I have been able to improve my program to add even more added-value services to my basic package. I could realistically increase the cost of my service by five times, and my clients would still be getting their money's worth from my service. And yet, more added value services are right around the coer.

THE SOFTWARE OF MY FUTURE LABORS

These companies are called "spyware." They specialize in invading a consumer's computer through unethical means and then literally replacing YOUR affiliate ID with their own! It is almost as if you never even existed!

Not only that, they even steal your future affiliate commissions by making sure that all future IDs are automatically replaced with their own. Even more, they can make it so that if the consumer goes to a website, a pop-up for a competing website (with their own affiliate ID) pops up and makes it impossible for you to get a sale.

As you likely agree, this is a major problem and it gets bigger and bigger every day. The more we fight back, the slicker these companies get.

How much are they really stealing?

Would you believe that studies have shown that these companies could be stealing more than 50% of your affiliate commissions! Some studies have shown that it may even be higher, but 50% has been a repeated number in more than a few studies.

It is a common story. You get into the Inteet, surf a bit, find this website about how you can make money and say: "Baboooom, I can do it too". So you start TRYING to sell marketing products, ebooks and money tree schemes. You try getting a referral that will get a referral that will get 100 referrals promoting a supposed "marketing tactic".

The fact is that 95% of these people don't ever make a single red cent.

Why?

Fact #1 - Because most of these "gold mines" do not work and many of the products are junk.

Collect Visitors Info First Before Sending Them To Affiliate

Honestly, I'm not a big affiliate fan because in the past I haven't gotten 90% of the money promised either because they disappear before they pay out or they have so many exceptions -- paying out once a quarter, has to be over X dollars first, etc. Another negative side is that some of them think that 10% commission or some low amount is worth the 20 hours it takes for us to sell it. Usually the 10% equal $10 and $10 isn't worth my reputation even $1000 actually.

Today's article is not about the pros and cons of being an affiliate member. There are some good affiliate programs out there where you will get a check, their exceptions are small or nil, and the commission reasonable for the amount of time, risk, and reputation you place on the line for their product or program.

This article focuses on collecting their information before you give them the affiliate link so you can increase your mailing list numbers or residual income.

Almost all affiliate referrals are handled by providing someone with the affiliate link. The reader then goes from your place to their place. If this is what you have been doing, take the "L" (for loser) off your forehead, and read this to "get SMART quick."

Stop LOOSING a valuable marketing opportunity -- and stop it now!

Instead, set up a bridge page (also called a portal page or doorway page). Use the terms bridge and portal instead since the word doorway has a separate search engine meaning that can be confusing.

A bridge page works simply like this. You set up a bridge page on your web site. You send them to this page instead of to the affiliate site, collect their information, and THEN send them to the affiliate site.

The objective is to offer them something for fr*e*e that they must register for on that bridge page so you collect their information. In fact, you can offer several things.

You set up two pages actually. One that is the bridge page and the other a thank you page. After you collect their information THEN you send them to the thank you page. On the thank you page, you thank them for whatever it is they did and then give them an option to NOW access the affiliate site.

Here are a few ideas on items you can offer on the bridge page to collect their information:

* To subscribe to your ezine. If you have more than one, list these all. * To register for an ecourse. * To receive an ebook. * Offer your opinion or testimonials on using the affiliate's product/program.

Now, one of the main things most people do not think about is offering them something to purchase. And this is something affiliate offerers lookout for when you sign up to be an affiliate (at least the good ones do). They don't want their competition becoming an affiliate and then snatching the customer on the way to their site. I am chuckling on this one -- I think it is great actually. Most affiliates don't even know this is happening to them.

Here is a duzie of a hint that I've only seen one affiliate program do. This will give you a head start and it's kind of sneaky too.

You can offer something at a price on the bridge page that has to do with that topic (you have a focused buyer here). Example: The affiliate item is a software product. You can write an ebook on the same topic. Yes, will this piss off some affiliates. You bet, but guess what -- that's business. And also guess what -- it's going to take them a while to figure it out what you are doing too. They are so busy trying to obtain more affiliates they don't have the time to research each one.

Offering something for a price isn't as effective as something for fr*e*e. Then again, you have to decide what is your call to action for the bridge page. Is it to collect name and increase your mailing list or to make residual income. Don't get greedy and offer both. It will bite you in the "assets". Too many choices and it confuses the visitor and so they don't make any decision at all and leave without choosing anything -- no freebie, no affiliate link.

When you set up your doorway page, set up the metatags and searchable keywords that you wouldn't otherwise be able to place on your site. Make sure that these same words are in the content.

Affiliate Progams Are Great But Beware Of The Fine Points

So you are looking around for extra revenue and figure, "Hey, being an affiliate sounds great. Let me try and get a few extra bucks from selling legitimate stuff on the web!"

Great idea, and you go on your happy way applying to some of the affiliate programs and affiliate farms out there. So here are some really important pointers for those who think affiliate programs are a piece of cake. Don't expect to make money. If you do, then great. If you don't then just don't think the whole world fell on your shoulders.

1. Not Every Affiliate Program is the same.
2. Not Every Affiliate Program is the same. AND
3. Not Every Affiliate Program is the same.

Affiliates work by giving you special code to put on your HTML in your web site. This code is either HTML or Javascript code. Google for instance works with Javascript and calls their program Adwords. Most others work with HTML, including Amazon and Baes & Noble.

But here are some of the really sticky points you must know.

1. Never mess, touch or change affiliate code unless you are 100% sure you know what you are doing. For instance: Most affiliate code does not really care that when your users click on the banner or text they will navigate away from your site to their site. You obviously don't want that. So you want to add into their code the "target=_blank" or "target=_new" code which belongs in href statement. If all that is Greek to you...then another article of mine will deal with it. But if it is Greek just don't touch their code!

2. What does this affiliate code do? Typically, it shows the banner or text, and adds a link code after that. For instance:

That is a short version by the way. What happens is when the user clicks on the banner, they are redirected to the web site, and the affiliate is SUPPOSED to be able to pick up that click with that special code. Thus the affiliate can tell you how many clicks were made on a specific banner.

Guess What? NEVER TRUST the affiliate unless you have been working with them. Some affilliates are great and their code works fine. Others will pick up all your banner impressions, (the times the banner is served out on your site) but the ability to pick up those clicks of your users is severly impaired.

So why should you care? Well, if they are not picking up the click correctly, they are not going to pick up the sale either and credit it to your account. In that case you could have 100 people spending loads of money on your web site and you won't get one dime from it. The Big Players are all safe. Google, Amazon, B&N etc. All tested.

Other affiliates you have to test and test again, until you are 100% sure that they are picking up every click on every banner you put on your web site. Do not expect to see your results in real time either. Some affiliates take an hour or 24 hours or even 48 hours to report correct click stats. That is fine. But if a couple of days go by and you are not seeing your test results show up in your affiliate statistics page, then something is wrong. Write them, call them, get an answer. If all you get is "stats are working fine, thank you for your letter" then drop the affiliate or affiliate farm as fast as you can.

If you are using an affiliate farm, the nasty thing to do is to contact one of their customers, and tell them you really wanted to sell their products at your web site, but in testing you found that your clicks were not getting picked up and they should look into it. If you are sure of the fact, then search for another web site on the net using the same affiliate farm, and write their webmaster as well.

Trust me, they will look into that in a blink of an eye. No company wants to deal with an affiliate farm that cannot handle the recording of clicks correctly. Remember, some of these affiliate farms have data collection routines that are really problematic or just don't work right. So be careful.

You do not want all your hard work to go to the garbage, in placing the banners and the correct code in just the right place on your web site, and then have people click on the banners and purchase something - only to find out you are not credited with the sale because the affiliate farm is not picking up the clicks correctly. And there is almost no way to prove the click came from you unless you do some serious weblog mining or have an offical notarized letter from the purchaser.

Be Careful. Pick Affiliates and Affiliate Farms that are known and if the affiliate farm is known look at who their customer base is. Who will you be selling the product for? Remember, if a customer has a bad experience with your affiliate, they will not buy from the affiliate again, but neither will they click on your banners again!

1. Find an affiliate program that pays instantly, or at least twice a month.

2. Join the affiliate program and calculate your Dollar Value Commission divided by 5,000. This will give you the total number of sales you need to convert from your affiliate link each month. [Example: 5,000 / $33.50 = 150 sales per month]

3. Take your number of sales per month, and divide by four. This gives you the number of sales needed per week. [Example: 150 / 4 = 38 sales per week]

4. Take your sales per week and divide by seven. You now have the number of sales needed per day... [Example: 38 / 7 = 6 sales per day]

5. Now create your Simplified Target Statement:

Ok so you think you have found a good affiliate program to promote on your website or in your newsletter? There are some basic things you need to look out for before joining any affiliate program. Some of them may seem minor but those little petty things can cause you to lose hundreds of dollars in affiliate revenue.

Here are some of the basic things to watch out for when joining an affiliate program:

No Affiliate Manager Contact Information
If they don't provide you with a way to contact them about their affiliate program then what are you going to do if you have a problem? Who are you going to email or call if your check doesn't arrive?

Commission Is To Low
Do you really want to spend time on an affiliate program that pays a measely 2%? I see these programs all over. They pitch their affiliate program and make it sound like it is a privelidge to join their affiliate program and ea pennies per sale. I usually stay away from programs that offer less than 8% commission. I will go a little lower if the products sell good and there is a good profit.

Unreasonable Cookie Length
Make sure you find this in their terms or information pages. This is the amount of time that the customer that clicks through your link remains yours. The standard cookie length is 30 days. This means that if your visitor clicks your affiliate link then they have 30 days to buy for you to get credit. You really don't want to promote an affiliate program that offers less than a 30 day cookie length.

Merchant Site Has Traffic Leaks
Probably the most common thing I see with affiliate programs. Mostly from newbie merchants that just got their affiliate program started. Most don't realize what they are doing and usually will correct the problem once I explain to them how traffic leaks are hurting their business and their affiliate program. Traffic leaks are links on the affiliate program site that potential customers can click on and go to other sites... sites that the affiliate won't get credit for if the visitor buys something. Leaks can consist of third-party banner ads, Google AdSense ads, popups, popunders, text links, etc...

No Phone Sale Tracking
With the inteet market growing so rapidly every year this means more customers are shopping online. Alot of them will call the merchants 800 number to call in their order instead of submitting it online. Where does this leave you? The merchant gets the cash on the sale while you get stiffed. So when evaluating an affiliate program be sure to check to see if the merchant has measures set up to track phone orders for affiliates. It is simple to set up and it puts the affiliates ID number next to the phone number. A while back I wrote a little article called "My Vision of Multiple Streams of Income". After receiving several emails asking for a sequel and sharing more real life experience I decided to give an update on my jouey with SFI and Stone Evans' PIPS system.

As I mentioned in my last article I went off a good start with this system and I honestly can attest it really works. The only negative thing is, if you want to call it this way, that I put a lot of effort into this project. The system is designed to run on autopilot, that's great. But until you've reached a certain level of visibility, you need run your promotions around the clock. I'm almost there.

As an example: I run several Google AdWords campaigns to promote my website and SFI. The reason for this is simple. This is a highly competitive market and achieving high rankings with the major search engines takes a long time and due to the rough competition you won't be able to reach the top without a few backdoor tricks.

So I took the route of actually spending some advertising money and in retu I have a wide spread exposure. Remember the baseball movie with Kevin Kostner "Field of Dreams" with the famous remark "If you build it they will come"? Unfortunately this is no longer true for the inteet.

Back to the topic of controlling the advertising cost with Google AdWords. I closely track my expenses and I keep a lit on it if it gets too high.

The tricky part is to decide when it is too high. I don't have an answer for this. For me it means whatever I'm comfortable with. Because you're building residual income and you're not aiming for a single sale. This is hard to gauge. Conversion rates are useless, although my conversion rate so far is over 20%. That is pretty good from what I read about this topic. What this number means in subsequent income has to be determined.

I also tapped into the extensive library of SFI's partner IAHBE. At first I just joined this organization because it guarantees my position in the SFI network. But after researching their services and utilizing their benefits like free mail leads, I have to say that this is a great institution. It's worth every penny of your monthly fees.

BUT…

For those who are content in promoting other peoples programs…I will share with you a few of my strategies for FREE!

But before I do that, let's see why most affiliates FAIL in just about any given affiliate program.

Like food products, affiliates have a 'use by date' or 'expiry date'. An average affiliate will expire 30 days after commencing …30 days or less to see if the program is any good and then they move on to the next affiliate program of the month.

If the affiliate doesn't see a retu on there investment in the first two weeks then they will not stay around.

DON'T BECOME A '30 DAY WONDER'.

It is time to make an informed decision (in choosing your affiliate program) and sticking with it. If you are one of those netpreneurs who changes affiliate programs often, and not making money from it, you now know why it isn't working.

Once you have identified some potential "directories" or other source of affiliates you need to dig into the details and find the really good ones. Check for quality of the product, strength and stability of the company, their ability to track sales made by affiliates, how they pay and how often, does their tracking system pay if the visitor comes back to the site directly and buys later, etc. The course contains too many details to cover here.

As competition within the online affiliate sales arena rises to a fierce boil, affiliate sellers expecting any degree of success must first find effective methods to set themselves apart from the crowd.

An uninitiated affiliate may expect to make sales simply by placing a referral link on his website, or by distributing the link in an email. On the other hand, a seasoned affiliate seller knows that a unique marketing twist of one sort or another must be built into the campaign for a satisfying profit to be realized.

One tested and proven method is to develop a unique landing webpage for each and every affiliate campaign engaged.

A landing page is nothing more than a proprietary webpage owned by the affiliate seller, hosted on his website, and and located at a URL within that domain. A well developed landing page will not only contain the actual affiliate referral link, but will also serve as an introduction to the product or service being offered, and will warm the customer prior to directing her to the main sales page.

Here we present three types of affiliate landing pages that have been proven effective in promoting a broad range of affiliate products and services.

However, the reader should note that no particular order of effectivenes is presented here. Determining the best type of landing page for a particular affiliate campaign will be a matter of careful consideration and diligent testing.

Landing Page #1 - The Product Review

This style of page takes the form of a factual and objective report, and should be completely free of any wording that attempts to sell. Direct experience with the product is a must, as the writer will be providing her or his own first hand observations regarding the benefits and problems that arise while actually putting the product or service to use.

Typically, a single product is reviewed for the sake of simplicity. Yet some successful landing pages do feature reviews of multiple products within a given category. In this case, each individual product should be rated by means of an easy to understand system, ie. one to five "stars."

For the sake of credibility, the product review must reveal both positive and negative product attributes. Still, the positive factors should firmly overshadow the negative in a realistic and honest sense. If not, look for a different affiliate product to promote.

Landing Page #2 - The Pre-Sell

This tactic has also been referred to as the "soft sell." The content here can borrow some of the effects of the product review method, but should be more directed overall toward defining a problem and offering the affiliate product or service as a solution.

It is advisable to carefully examine the main seller's page to discover and capitalize on overlooked product benefits or hooks. It is also acceptable to use highlighted or bolded words and phrases to a degree, providing they will enhance the reader's understanding.

A strong headline may be used, and bulleted lists may also be inserted to clearly illustrate product features and benefits. But keep in mind this is a "soft sell" page. The purpose is only to warm the reader. There should be no hard sell or call to action other than asking her to "Click This Link to Lea More."

Landing Page #3 - The Forced Opt-In

This type of page typically consists of nothing more than a strong headline, a problem reinforcement, an offer to solve the problem, and an autoresponder opt-in box. The prospect can be immediately redirected to the main salespage after she signs up.

Experienced affiliate marketers have varying opinions as to the effectiveness of this landing page, especially when used behind a paid advertising campaign. There is some conjecture that too many prospects are lost when they fail to opt-in.

Another viewpoint is that this tactic produces a high quality list of action-taking propects with a proven degree of interest. Given these two viewpoints, it may be wise to perform a split testing action, using the forced opt-in page and at least one other landing page configuration.

Regardless of either view, the forced opt-in tactic will enable the affiliate to capture a unique and highly targeted mailing list, a valuable asset in and of itself.

When dealing with affiliate companies for revenue on your websites it makes sense to keep an eye on what they are peddling and very carefully consider the types of revenue you use. Some websites are choosing to use highlighted word hyperlinks to affiliates. Others decry this type of advertising because it looks cheesy. Nevertheless if it indeed makes money then folks will try it. Those that have are split, some say it derives a lot of revenue others say it is pure evil; interesting debates on this topic indeed.

From only a personal perspective these highlighted words in the regular text of a website somewhat scare me as user. Why? Well, because I have no idea where the link is going to and it could be going to a website that automatically loads on Spyware or Adware to your computer. So when I see these, I will scan the article if interesting and back out of the website all together or even close the browser and start over.

Many very well known Websites in the "public science realm" do this and some of those sites I no longer visit. It would seem if it tends to detract readership then it also will lessen a website's use and therefore over all hurt the site, even though occasionally someone will click on the highlighted words link. Originally some websites used this to go to a definition of a word or one could click on the word to go to a listing of all the articles on the subject, but now most go to affiliate websites for Ads, that is unfortunate.

While on Wikipedia.com those highlighted words go to more depth in the subject of that word. So, it can be confusing and a way of trickery of the new users understanding. I find that troubling. This is an interesting subject however. And something perhaps you need to think on when considering possibilities for affiliate revenues. Consider this in 2006.

Common Decency Let s Keep it Alive

I recently had an experience with one of the affiliate programs I *was* involved with. This experience did not surprise me, but did however, disappoint me. It is a sad fact that it did not surprise me and I thought maybe an article on this subject might bring it to our attention.

I did willingly join this program and accept the terms of which I do understand. However, when customers of this online business owner would email me with complaints about the product and the fact that the owner would not answer any emails, I definitely had to think twice about promoting this product and affiliate program.

So having decided this, I wrote the owner and asked if he could send me the small amount owed to me. I informed him I would not be promoting his product or program any longer and would like what was owed to me. His reasoning was, he would not pay me because I joined the program willingly and he had a minimum amount.

This I had to accept while thinking, "Wouldn't common decency dictate paying the small amount he owed to a former affiliate?" The money itself does not change my life in anyway of course, but the human side of this really bothers me.

I will credit him with being polite and professional in his emails, and I also did not get upset, but thanked him for the leaing experience. I also stated that I would in no way run my affiliate program in that way.

Common decency would prohibit me from doing so.

I realize we are running businesses and need to make money, but do we throw away courtesy, decency, respect and consideration to do so? I think not!

I know I am not the only person this has happened to, as a matter of fact, it has happened to me twice. The first time being a much bigger amount. The program owner just dropped out of business and left his affiliates hanging.

As a whole, the people I have been lucky enough to "meet" online have all been wonderful, caring, helpful, respectful and decent. When I first started online, that fact was a wonderfully pleasant discovery! Over time however, I did run into a few people who needed to lea common decency.

So if you run a business/affiliate program, do not let money be your first priority, make people number one and the money will follow. If you owe somebody money/service. etc., pay them. If your affiliate decides to "resign" from your program show them your good faith and common decency. Pay them what you owe, even if the amount does not reach your "minimum"!

Their reasons for "resigning" might be totally false in your eyes, but you still owe them what they did sell for you. Common decency prohibits me from "blabbing" the product/program I had this problem with, but it is no longer on my site and if people ask me about this specific product/program, I will tell them the truth.

I am not out to get this guy, but cannot recommend a product/program that I know does business in this manner.

I usually don't write this type of "venting" article, but this topic is so very important, I thought I would make an exception.

So let's think about when we are dealing with customers, subscribers, Newbies, associates, affiliates, etc., we need to keep common decency and respect alive. Do not lose sight of our fellow human beings so we can have a few extra bucks in our pocket!

The control panel is easy to understand and Google provides stats and figures in order for you to track your performance. You can also add Adsense for search where visitors can search the web or your site and you get compensated everytime someone clicks on the ads displayed.

Developing content sites is key to success in Adsense. Why? Because Google's technology uses the content of each page to guess which ads are most suitable. The higher the quality of the content, the higher quality and paying ads you will attract.

Please note that getting accepted into Adsense does not guarantee that you will receive a check from them. Your success depends on many factors.

Some of them include the number of visitors, the placement of the ads, the value of the keywords on the page where the ads are shown and how many persons who will clickthru on the Adsense ad panel.

For those with unscrupulous minds, Google has ways and means to find out where each ad click is originating from. Therefore no click spamming.

Don t Even Think About Affiliate Marketing Until You ve Read This Part 1

You've probably heard some of the affiliate success stories from across the inteet. You've also probably heard of the diverse benefits of affiliate marketing... Low start up costs, no products to deliver, no sales pitch to write, EASY! I was the same as you and it was these things that first got me into affiliate marketing. However, it took me a long time and several key distinctions to take my affiliate revenue from average to amazing.

In this article series I will attempt to highlight some of these distinctions in the hope of furthering your affiliate marketing knowledge and assisting in your success. I will attempt to give away as much information as possible without getting into trouble as a lot of what I am about to tell you, people are charging large fees to provide. Here are some of these distinctions.

1. Find A Good Product:
It seems so simple people often overlook this crucial aspect of affiliate marketing. If people are clicking through from your page to your merchants page and they are not being converted... You've got a problem. Most good affiliate programs will advertise their products conversion rates to entice potential affiliates. If they don't do this, ASK! Most affiliate experts recommend you purchase the product for which you wish to be an affiliate so you can sleep easy at night knowing its something you'd be confident to promote. Check your merchants page thoroughly looking at things like the general look and feel, and the perceived effectiveness… If your interested in this product… would YOU buy from this merchant?

2. Be a friend.
From a psychological perspective the reason someone buys something from an affiliate is that the opinion of someone who has used the product (ie already made the decision that the consumer is going to make) strongly confirms the pitch of the seller, and therefore the product is perceived to be more trustworthy. The affiliate should be presented as an average guy/girl who has used the product and knows the market and is different to the 'big company' (merchant) that is 'just out to make the sale'. If your page contains writing, it should introduce the affiliate personally, the tone should be friendly and informal (as you speak), and if possible could give an example of the success the affiliate has had using the product (or some other form of official confirmation of the products worthiness.)

3. Be an affiliate for more than one product BUT...
Obviously the more products you can be an affiliate for the better, but many new affiliates find it difficult to do this without compromising the effectiveness of their affiliate pitches. One great way to do this is to find a niche market that sellf more than one product. Let's take golf for example (hardly a niche market I know but go with it...) On one part of the site you could talk about the best putters (affiliate link) another part the best golf bags, another the best drivers and so forth. All your affiliate links are in AND if someone buys a putter you've recommended are they more or less likely to check out which driver you like too? How To Become A Data Feed Super Affiliate

I am not going to describe what a product feed (or a data-feed) is. There is a lot of information out there about how to use one to build sites. Instead, I want to talk about how you can actually make more sales with data-feed sites.

The program that I manage offers a product feed, and I get a chance to see a sad picture of many good affiliates wasting their potential.

Here is my advice from the affiliate manager's perspective.

Whenever you join (or think bout joining) a program, you need to look for two things:

- Temporary or permanent opportunities

- Flaws of a merchant

Here is an example of an opportunity that was created by an outside factor.

Recently, we got removed from the Yahoo index because of a penalty. I have no idea when (or if) we will get included back in, but I do know that it makes one decision much easier for our affiliates.

Judging by the numerous posts on various SEO-related message boards, it looks like Google and Yahoo use very different algorithms to rank pages. So for any given site, you have a choice to make. You can optimize for Yahoo, for Google, or for both.

Since Yahoo and Google use different algorithms, it is going to be hard to optimize the same set of pages for both of those engines at the same time, unless you employ heavy cloaking. And the way I see it, for an affiliate, it is better to appear high on one search engine than to appear low on both of them in an attempt to optimize for different algorithms at the same time.

Imagine that you are one of our affiliates. Given the information I just told you, shouldn't you concentrate on Yahoo for that data-feed site that is being used to promote our products?

Why spend (at least) half of your time and resources on optimizing for Google when you know that we are nowhere to be found in Yahoo?

You have to have an extremely well linked and optimized site to get ahead of the merchant for the exact product-name search terms. The merchant is your biggest obstacle when it comes to the search engine traffic. So if there is a route that lets you get around that obstacle - take it!

Most of our well-performing affiliates did just that. Either intentionally or unintentionally, they ended up making much more money by appearing high in Yahoo results, while not being ranked high in Google.

So on a practical side of things, here is what you should do.

For your existing merchants, check if they are removed from the index in any of the major search engines, and if they are, then start reading and implementing SEO tips for that particular engine.

And if you are thinking about joining a program and can't decide between several merchants, then check if any of them is not in the index of either Yahoo or Google. If you find a merchant like that - drop everything else you are doing and jump on that program.

As far as theory goes, this was just a simple, but specific example of what you should look for to make your efforts pay off. There are many different opportunities to get ahead in existing programs with data-feed sites; you just have to look for them.

Now, let's talk about flaws of merchants and how you can exploit them to make more money and help consumers at the same time.

I will give another specific example, but you should be able to apply this concept to many different programs.

Our site has one huge structural flaw: we only list products by product-oriented categories.

In other words, there is no way to navigate our site by a specific occasion or by the purchasing intent of a visitor.

You can follow a path like:

widgets -> wooden widgets -> red wooden widgets

This setup works fine for some type of shoppers, but is a complete tu-off for others.

And the problem is that most affiliates simply mirror the catalog structure of a merchant according to their feed.

But if you structured your site to list widgets as:

- widgets for birthdays

- widgets for girlfriends

- widgets for those who are over 50

- the Independence Day widgets etc.

then you would attract different type of shoppers. You would no longer compete with the merchant, but instead you would complement them.

A visitor who is looking for a gift for his 50-something friend and has no idea that a red wooden widget would be perfect, will not travel down the path laid out by our catalog. So if he gets to our home page, we simply lose a sale. And if your data-feed-based site follows the same structure - you lose as sale as well.

Also, since the visitor does not know that he really wants a red wooden widget, he we not use those keywords while searching for a present on the search engines.

But if you attracted that visitor to your site, presented him with ideas for older friends' birthday gifts and guided him to that specific widget's page - then we would make a sale, you would make a commission, and the visitor (tued customer) would get his present with much less searching around. Everyone wins.

Such approach takes more work than simply cloning the merchant's site with a feed, but affiliates who actually do something to complement merchant instead competing with them make a lot more money. After all, if you create a copy of a merchant's site - you are not only competing with the merchant, you are also competing with all of their affiliates that use the same feed in the same way.

How to Start an Online Internet Business for Less than 60 a Year

This report will show you how to find niche products to sell, create a niche website and sell to the selected market for under $60 a year. The cost includes product research, web hosting and design.

Step 1: Keyword Research

Keywords refer to single words and phrases that are related to the niche you will be marketing.

When people search on the inteet they enter words or phrases they are interested in. For example, if someone is looking for weight loss help, they may enter "lose weight" "how to lose weight" "help losing weight" weight loss pills" "exercise equipment" or any number of combinations containing the word weight.

When you are marketing to an Inteet audience these keywords are used in your webpage, PPC campaign, articles, etc. so that people will be directed to the webpage featuring these keywords.

The key to evaluating your keywords is to determine whether your choice will have too much competition for you to receive enough visitors or not enough interest to make it worth your effort to create a webpage around that keyword.

To start the research:

Enter a general keyword relating to your niche, ie: dogs

What will be retued is a list of the keywords that contain the general keyword and number of searches for the keywords.

Next, put dogs in the Google search box. You will see 243,000,000 results (upper right coer) which means that there are that many other websites targeting the word "dogs". This is too much competition for a starting website.

Go back to GoodKeywords and look farther down the list to find other phrases that have less searches. Repeat the procedure of looking up the word phrase in Google until you find a phrase that has less than 100,000,000 sites but more than 200,000. Why more than 200,000? Because it will be difficult to find products for your site if there is limited interest in the keyword.

Step 2: Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs give you access to products and services that you can promote on your website.

Find products to sell in your niche by searching by subject in each affiliate program.

Google Adsense is different from other affiliate programs in that they feed the ads to your website based on the content of your pages. You put the code supplied by Google into your webpage where you want the ads to appear.

Also check well-know websites in your niche for affiliate programs. Email them and ask if they have an affiliate program for their products.

Step 3: Choose Domain Name

Choose a domain name and register it at www.GoDaddy.com Choose a name that reflects the keywords that you plan to target in your niche. While at GoDaddy sign up for the $3.99 a month web hosting package. Do not add any additional software that GoDaddy offers. Remember - we are keeping the cost of the website under $60 per year.

Step 4: Website Design

Choose a website design using free templates from:

Step 5: Webpage Editor

Download a WYSIWYG editor if you do not know HTML programming. The editor will let you add content and ads to your webpages. Two editors I recommend are www.nvu.com and www.mozilla.org. The nvu program is a stand alone program but the mozilla is downloaded with the firefox browser.

Step 6: PayPal

If you are going to market your own niche products, sign up with PayPal so you can accept payments from credit and debit cards.

Design Web Site Around Affiliate Programs

When starting a Web business, most people choose a topic for their Web site and then look for products and affiliate programs related to that topic. In this article, I suggest searching for a group of related affiliate programs first, then designing your Web site around those programs.

There are many affiliate directories and affiliate network Web sites where you can search for the best programs. For this example, I use Commission Junction http://www.jc.com This affiliate network site provides a vast amount of searchable information on over 1200 affiliate programs.

On Commission Junction's front page, click on the link "Search all advertisers". This will take you to a page with a drop down list where you can select a category. In order to search the information on Commission Junction, you must be a member, but membership is free. After you login to Commission Junction, go to the bottom of the page to "Find Advertisers & links". Here you can get a list of all advertisers, search advertisers by keyword, or browse for advertisers.

Click on "Browse for advertisers". This takes to to a table where you can arrange the affiliate programs based upon "EPC" or "Network Eaings". EPC is the average eaings per 100 clicks. It reflects the affiliate programs ability to convert clicks into commissions. Network Eaings is a rank, on a scale of one to five, of an affiliate program based on the amount of commissions paid. In the head of the table, click on the name of the parameter you are interested in. This rearranges the entries based upon that parameter.

After you arrange the entries, you have to page past all the "New" programs. I guess Commission Junction puts the new programs at the top of the list to help promote them. As you analyze the data you will discover that the programs that pay the highest eaings per click do not necessarily provide the highest total eaings.

Some important points:

- Commission Junction is not the best affiliate network. Their fees to advertisers are too high. Search Google for other affiliate networks and affiliate programs.

- Join several good programs. You don't want to build your Web site around one program that may be discontinued.

- Don't join too many programs. It takes time and work to promote each program.

- Don't be in a rush to join affiliate programs. Take your time and select a profitable category and high quality programs.

Most people get an idea for a Web site, and then look for related affiliate products to sell. Why not research affiliate programs first? Then you can lea what categories of affiliate products and services are going you ea you the most money. You can then design the topic of your Web site around the most profitable product categories and affiliate programs.

Google AdWords Clobbers Affiliate Sellers

First, we must understand their point of view. Unlike some other search engines, Google is committed to providing the best quality search results possible. That is an admirable effort, and they are certainly not setting out to do harm to their loyal advertisers who bring them millions in ad revenue each month.

However, a new AdWords regulation will put a crimp on those marketers who run ads using an affiliate URL as a landing page.

Google's reasoning is this.

For any keyword search, a good sized portion of AdWord results has, at least until now, consisted of affiliate ads promoting identical seller sites.

Here is an example.

Before the Holidays, this writer searched Google for the term "chocolate." Of the ten AdWords listings retued on the first page, three were affiliate ads promoting Dans.com, a chocolate maker in Vermont USA. Another ad on the same page belonged to Dan himself.

From Google's viewpoint, and mine as well, that was not a quality search result.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, that won't be happening again. The new AdWords policy states that, for any keyword search, when two or more ads are found that feed to the same affiliate URL, only the ad with the highest popularity and ranking will be displayed.

At the same time, the new AdWord policy cuts a bit of slack, in that affiliate advertisers are no longer required to identify their affiliate status in their ad text. But overall, it has dealt a severe blow to thousands of affiliates, their market exposure, and their potential for income.

So What's The Solution?

There are three things that can be done to regain that exposure.

1. - Optimize the existing ad according to AdWords standards and hope you'll land the top ranking. That will be tough if you're competing against ten or twenty other affiliates who are all doing the same thing.

2. - Create a redirect page on your website that will feed to the seller's page, and use that unique URL as a landing page for the ad. The unique URL alone will successfully circumvent the new AdWords affiliate policy. Still, this may be regarded as somewhat sneaky or unethical.

3. - The best answer can be spelled out in just two words - Content Pages.

To clarify, a content page is just a simple webpage, hosted on your own website, that presents a short (500 words or less) report relating to the product itself or to the related niche.

And of course, your affiliate link will be embedded into that content, rather than being used as a direct link in your AdWords ad. Once again, the unique URL for your content page will effectively and legally get around the new affiliate policy.

Now, I'm a firm believer in content pages. They not only make your site more important to your visitors and to the search engines, they can (when well written and keyword relevant) help to pre-sell the product. An informative content page can often make the difference between a sale and a loss when there happens to be a weak salesletter on the seller's website.

Another advantage ... you can embed multiple [related] affiliate links into a single content page, giving your potential customers several buying options to shop from.

Where Can You Get Content Pages?

It isn't as tough as it might sound. Here are two ways to go about it.

1 - Write the content yourself. Stick to the topic and use relevant keywords/keyphrases to tweak the reader's interest, and that of the search engines as well. A personalized review of the product usually works best, offering your own experience in using it, and your resulting benefits. Then format the content as HTML, optimize the page for search engines, upload it to your site, and use that unique URL in your Google AdWordsTM campaign.

2 - Search for topic related pre-written articles at sites like EzineArticles.com and place your affiliate link(s) in a short blurb before and after the article itself.

Be aware that the terms of use on most public articles do not allow you to edit the body of the article itself, or to omit the author's resource box. Check to make sure you can effectively use the article and still abide by all terms of use.

Here are 4 ways to encourage affiliates to promote your products.

1. Have a common affiliate program.

There is nothing worse then having to signup for a separate affiliate program every time you want to promote a certain product. It is a real put off to affiliates. So if you have just one or two products I recommend that you use a large market place such as Clickbank or PayDotCom to get lots of affiliates to promote your products.

2. Pay a big commission.

When selling digital products online it is recommended that you give the largest percentage you can. A minimum of 50% should be offered, 60% is nice but 70% or 75% is a generous commission. You might be thinking to yourself, "75%! That is crazy... I want to make 'some' money as well, why should they get more than me?". Quite simply, the more you give affiliates the more likely they are willing to spend their money to promote your products so you will make more sales and get the potential for more repeat products in the long run.

3. Pay them quickly and reliably.

Affiliates always have an inbuilt fear that the product owner will run off with their money so the sooner you pay them the more comfortable they are and the more willing they are to promote your products. Plus if you pay them reliably at the agreed time each month then this will have the same effect.

4. Make it easy for them to promote you.

The last thing you want to do is make it hard or complicated for your affiliates to promote your products. So you have to make it dead easy for them to promote you by providing them with easy to brand solo ads, articles and ezine ads.

Here's the 'Numero Uno' Rule!

Don't be cheap! Always go for quality! Hey, if you wouldn't buy it, why should anyone else?!

Take a good look at the product or service you're considering marketing and make sure it is top notch! Is is a good value for the price? If it's a ridiculous amount of money for something not worth a whole lot, then forget about it. How about the people that are recommending it? Have you done business with them in the past? Are they reliable? Can you talk to a few people who have bought the product? Are they happy with what they purchased?

You've really got to be certain you are recommending a good quality product, from a reputable company, which has great customer service.

This is definitely pretty da important! As an affiliate, you're sticking your neck out there, every time you advertise or recommend the product or service you're linking to. You are in effect, endorsing them, so it's your reputation at risk! Be sure you're dealing with a company that deserves your trust and reflects well on you personally!

Be smart! Don't ever promote something that's going to harm your reputation!

The Second Most Important Rule

You better be eaing a super dooper commission! If you're only being paid 5% or 10% per product sold...boy, are you ever getting the 'short end of the stick'! That's a low commission! You need to look for a company who's thinking about the life-time-value of a customer and is willing to give YOU a very high payout to keep you. You want to associate with a company who pays out around 60% of the net profit to their affiliates. You won't find an affiliate program like this on every website, you're going to have to really search for it! But that's allright. It'll be worth the effort!

With a good affiliate company, when someone joins under you, they get paid for every sale they make (just like you), and you get paid a percentage for every sale THEY make. Just think what would happen if you had a few really hot affiliates, who signed up undeeath you and were making 10 sales a mont... you would be making a whole lot of money every month just on the work THEY did. As long as they keep selling, you keep getting paid!

Something else to think about...even if a company is paying out a high commission, if people don't buy from them, you're right back where you started! They've got to have a site which tus visitors into buyers; the site must have a good conversion rate! The site should have at least a 1% conversion ratio; meaning, that one out of every hundred customers you send to them, then tus into a sale.

Make sure you go with an affiliate program which has sales copy and website design that "makes you want to buy". After all, YOU are sending them the potential customers, but it's their job to tu those potential customers into buyers! More buyers, more money for you! Basically pretty simple.

Also, keep in mind your payout amount. If you are eaing $50 a referral for one buying customer, you're doing okay.. but, if you are only eaing a $10 referral fee for that one buying customer, you may want to rethink things.

Here Comes Rule Number Three, Short But Major Important!:

Match the product or service to the theme of your site. So if your site is about horses and horse products you don't want to be advertising music CD's or weight loss products (unless of course it is a weight loss product for horses!).

You need to target your clientele so that what you are selling or recommending, has something to do with what your visitors WANT. I can't stress this enough it's very important! Provide links, services and products, which are related to what YOUR visitors want!

I am continually astonished, that people build a site and then have products and affiliate programs that have nothing whatsoever to do with each other! DUH!!

The Number Four Rule:

You also need to be conceed with the tracking software the affiliate program is using. You want to see your statistics (stats) in real time and be able to check them at any time to see how you are doing.

Why?

So you can go and check to see how your promotional efforts are working Compare the difference in results between putting a button up and putting up a whole sales page. You need instant information on visitor and sales results. How many sales is your affiliate banner generating, same goes for a text link, or personal recommention....how many visitors are you sending to the affiliate site and then how many sales is it generating for you.

Does the software the company is using track ALL of your sales....some companies use "inferior" software which only tracks about 80% of the time (meaning YOU lose out on 20% of the commissions that are rightfully yours). Other companies will only pay you if the customer visits through your link and buys right then and there...if they come back and buy later, you may not get credit for that sale.

The Number Five Rule:

Don't allow affiliate programs to clutter up your main site. Don't go crazy and find 10 different programs and try to promote them all on your site at the same time!! It just clutters up your site and makes it worthless! Focus on one or two really good affiliate programs, that work for your business and client base. Only become involved with an affiliate program that has products or services that your target market wants.

"Wants" is the important word here. People buy things impulsively because they "want" them, not because they "need" them. When you come right down to it, there are not all that many products which people really "need".

More is not necessarily better! Put too many affiliate programs on your site and you just end up confusing your visitors. You won't make many sales with confused buyers! Stay targeted!

The Number Six Rule:

This is just common sense...deal with a reputable company. If you are ever unsure of a company, ask for references and do some checks on them. Are they professional? If you phone them, do they put you on hold FOREVER!? Be assured, they'll do the same to customers you recommend to them. They should respond promptly to your emails, within the same day if at all possible. If they don't respond to your emails at all....run in the other direction!

Customer response and service is EVERYTHING. If you ask questions about a company's affiliate program and get no answer (or a delayed answer)... whoa, watch out! If they can't be bothered to take care of you when you express an interest in becoming an associate, what's the odds they'll take care of you when you have a real problem!? It's a pretty good bet, that they won't take very good care of your customers either! So be very careful, the company you deal with should be very professional and willing to help you out when you're in need.

Take the bit about the importance of Customer Service to heart and make certain YOU respond swiftly to emails or phone messages you receive in your own business dealings. This IS CRITICAL.

Following are a few related odds and ends.

Affiliate Programs and bulk email do NOT go together.

There's this "myth" out there about affiliate programs, that you go join a few, put them all in an email message and then bulk email thousands of people who will eagerly respond making you tons of money! Oh, so WRONG! This is probably one of the worst things you can do online. It's called SPAM!

Most affiliate programs have a "bulk" email clause in their agreement that says... if you spam, you can get terminated from the program and not get paid for any commissions you've eaed. Be aware that there's also a very good chance that you will lose your Inteet connection, not to mention your reputation!

Sending unsolicited bulk email to millions of people who have NOT qualified themselves as being interested in your product is not very profitable (you won't get any response!) can end up costing you money and is just plain RUDE!

I even know of some companies who have billed the "spammer" for the time it's taken the company to deal with the complaints and administrative problems caused by the bulk emailing done using their affiliate program URL. You spam with an affiliate URL, and it looks like it was the company doing the spamming, since the recipient is being sent directly to the company website. Not good for the company's reputation! NOT going to make you a very popular affiliate member either!!

One last thing. Watch out for any "exclusivity clauses" in affiliate agreements. Some companies will state that "they can be the only retailer of a specific product on your site". If you signed up with a book selling program for example, with this clause in the contract, that would limit you to selling only their books on your site. This may not be a problem for you, maybe you only want to sell their books anyway! Just be careful not to restrict yourself unless you want to.

How I Make Money Through Affiliates My Experiment

When I started my interest in affiliate sites I was just beginning to lea about web development and working for a company that offered affiliate programs. What are affiliate programs? Most popular merchants that sell something offer affiliate programs for other webmasters to help them increase their traffic and their revenues. Affiliate programs are for people that have a website that generates traffic and can help the merchant who is offering the affiliate program. Anyways, the goal of my experiment was to try to generate an affiliate website that will generate some income and spend the LEAST amount of money in the process.

Like most of you I am an average Joe with mouths to feed, trying to make ends meet. I decided to create my own website and added affiliate programs to boost my income. I first bought a domain name and web hosting, paying a total of about $11 a month in overhead. Now being the cheapo that I am, even this step was a heart stopper for fear that my site would not work out. I decided to make a website about coupon codes thinking I could offer this benefit to many shoppers who were interested in saving money. I designed and created my site utilizing all that I had leaed about web development, and gave it a catchy name "cheap-buys.com". When I finally had a decent looking website, I joined affiliate programs for many major websites through cj.com and linkshare.com. These are companies who handle a lot of affiliate business for many large-scale websites. To join is free without any obligation as long as you have a respectable website created.

Now remember, I did not want to spend any money at all so I did not advertise my website. I decided to optimize my site through "search engine optimization". The website I created about coupons and deals has too broad of an appeal. If I were to do it over again I would have made it about a more specific topic. By narrowing the category you will be able to more easily be placed on top of search engines for the specific category.
2. Get a good domain name reflective of what your website is about. If your website is about horses' tails then you want to call it something like "horses-tails.com" and not "animals.com".
3. Provide original content rich material on your website. The search engines love it and will definitely allow for more people who search the web to find your site. It also helps if the content of your website changes a lot. In this case the search engines will visit more often to get the updated material.
4. Try to get as many other people who have websites to link back to your site as you can. This will improve your rankings in the search engines.
5. Sign up with Google Adsense or any other pay-per-click programs so you can offer an alteative for people who want to exit your site to click on related links and produce yourself some extra revenue through otherwise lost customers.

Analyzing Commission Junction

Commission Junction is one of the 800 pound gorillas of Affiliate Marketing. CJ is part of the publicly held ValueClick, which eaed $39 million last year on marketing programs, including affiliate programs, email marketing and software for advertising agencies.

CJ handles affiliate programs for a lot of the big names, including Home Depot, Yahoo and Citibank.

Can you make money with Commission Junction? Like most affiliate programs it depend on the theme or niche of your web site, and how well you match your content and the CJ programs.

Our spider ran through the site recently, and I've made a list of the major categories and their average Eaings Per Click (EPC). You will recall that EPC is calculated by taking the total commission payout for the advertiser and dividing it by the number of clicks that advertiser gets, so EPC measures how profitable each click is for the publisher. We used 7 day EPC, which measures EPC across the last seven days.

The spider also only saves the top ten advertisers in each category/subcategory, and since some advertisers are in more than one category/subcategory it tends to skew the results a bit (higher). We came up with an average of .56 (fifty-six cents) per click across the board averaging every category and subcategory.

We've created a metric we call True EPC or TEPC, which measures the actual Eaings Per Single Click, rather than the eaings per hundred clicks that companies like CJ use to make the numbers look bigger.

What does it all mean? Well, to me it means that if you have a website that gets visitors interested in Loans, Insurance, Sunsetter awnings or Yahoo hosting, you should be a member of Commission Junction.

More generally, if you think you can get decent clickthrough on Finance, Home & Garden, Insurance or Web Services, I would include some Commission Junction ads.

Some commentary on the top 4 ads: what strikes me right off the bat is that the little Yahoo text ad at #4 pulls almost four bucks. I actually signed up for that program myself, and I'm going to put it on this site when I get the chance. My calculations tell me that 1:5 to 1:7 clicks results in a signup.

What's the flip side of all this data? There are categories that aren't so great at CJ. If your site is about web services advice, handbags, new age, car travel or rentals, commercial insurance or weddings, I'd look elsewhere. Another way to interpret the data would be to say that the marketers CJ has for those categories don't pull well. Still another would be that the type of sites that sign with CJ just don't attract the type of people that would click on ads in those categories. No matter how you slice it it still comes out the same — it seems like CJ isn't the place to look to fill that ad space.

Not content with my mountain of data, I opened the firehose a little more. I ran a program that compared the average EPC for Pay-per-sale programs vs. Pay-Per-Lead programs. For per-sale, the EPC was .36. For per-lead it was .67. Intutitively I would say that advertisers pay more for sales than leads, so the clickthrough on leads has to be much higher on CJ, which also seems correct since less of a commitment is required from the visitor for a lead than a sale. So if you have a choice in programs between sale and lead, take the lead program.

So what did we lea here? It seems to me that if your site visitors would respond to banners or text links about mortgage financing, insurance, gardening or web services, add some CJ banners to the mix. What the heck, add them anyway if you have room, because experimentation is important to success in affiliate marketing. If you have a site with content that fits those categories or is a general interest or entertainment site, there are many good programs to choose from at CJ.

Lastly, I did a quick comparison of the average Adsense payout (using 80% of the average of keyword bids for different categories), and Adsense comes out a better EPC about a quarter of the time. So check Adsense first before you put up a CJ ad that has an EPC of a dollar or more. A big banner ad vs. an Adsense ad may seem like a good idea because more exposure may translate into more clicks, but you can fit three Adsense text ads in that banner space.

There are many hidden insights in the data, and I encourage you to go to the website, print out the page and take a look. There might be some terrific-paying programs you can ad to your website.

Why would site visitors sift through generalities when they can get specifics that focus on people like them? You know they won't, so you started a web site for a niche market – on a subject near and dear to your heart, as focus and enthusiasm show. Say, do-it-yourself fuiture caning.

Then what?

Go to conferences, read books and articles and do some interviews in order to find out just what a do yourself caner wants to know.

Put up your content with a twist specifically toward your niche. No need to skip the more general or related articles or information, such as the history of caning, or art museums that have exquisite caned chair examples, but provide them by using links to broader, more general sites, and complementary sites that target offshoots of your core subject Pull together the best instructional materials you can on every aspect of caning, organized the way you've found your visitors think and proceed. videos, charts, how-to articles on techniques of caning, minor repairs to a chair before caning, how and when to stain, oil or paint, common materials used for caning, etc.

Free to Join Affiliate Programs Can I Really Make Money

If you have been looking around the inteet for a while in search of ways of making money you cannot fail to have seen the words "join our free affiliate program" or "best free inteet affiliate program" - probably followed by something about making thousands of dollars a month!

If you are like me you were a mixture of skeptical, intrigued, excited and also thinking "could this work for me?" Well to cut a long story short I was looking to work from home at the tail end of 2004 due to ill health and was surfing the net to find a work from home business. I kept seeing these adverts for free to join affiliate programs but had never heard of them in my life. To say I was a newbie was a massive understatement!

It is vital to find a market BEFORE you find your product. I tried to promote many things I thought were great products before I realized it was not what I thought would sell that mattered! It is what people are looking for that is important.

You may have heard the term "Niche Market" and this is what you are searching for - a niche that may not have a huge number of potential buyers - but that has a large enough group of people who are very HUNGRY to buy your products. It is your job as an affiliate to target these people as accurately as possible.

There are many different e Books out there that will help you lea how to do this. Using the Overture search tool is an excellent way of finding popular searches and Niche Markets.

You can also promote free affiliate programs through your own sites and this is the way to really generate those huge incomes you read about - but it can be a huge leaing curve! Don't worry however as there are lots of good programs out there that will teach you step by step how to do this. If your inbox is anything like mine, you've probably recieved your fair share of Product Resale Rights offers. Often times you'll be offered anywhere from one to a hundred or more products, ranging in price from $17. to $500. Trying to figure out What You're Allowed To Do with them can be a confusing process.

If your package comes with Basic Resale Rights, It will give you the right to resell it and that's usually it. Most of the time it comes with it's own sales page, which all you need to do is add your payment link and upload it to your web host. It is also the least expensive. Your probability of profit is increased since it virtually cost you nothing to get started. Basic rights range in price from $17. to $97. and are very easy to profit from. However, this option is not generally viral since you don't have the right to claim it as your own or give it away. It must be sold and can't be included in another package or sold in Auction Sites. These restrictions are defined in the Read Me File contained in the zip file in your download.

If your package comes with Master resell rights. It will also come with its own sales page. Your options are increased with this package. You will have the right to resell it, bundle it with other products, sell it at auction sites or give it away. It will usually cost more than the Basic Rights since you have the right to do more than the Basic Rights. You will also get everything you need to get your site up and running. On occasion it will come with marketing tools such as banner graphics, solo ads, classified ads, etc.

If your package comes with private label rights. One particular type of private label rights gives you the right to claim it as your own. It is generally ready made and the only changes you can make is to put your name on it.

Another type of private label rights is not a finished ready to sell product. All you get with this one is the raw source code. Usually in an MS Word document. This will require someone a bit more advanced in their ability to design and set up either a web page or insert the information in ebook format. This type basically gives you the right to do just about anything you want with it. You can change it, claim it, add to it or omit parts of it. Your site has a niche and you have carefully chosen the merchants or advertisers you feel (or after time, know) your visitors buy from. There are ways to increase the sales of your merchants and your affiliate commissions. Instead of just having the banners, links or ads on your site, you need to actively promote the use of these products and services, in a useful way. This is called pre-selling.

For instance, say you have a site relating to kayaking in certain region or river, with all the tips, maps and guides. It stands to reason, of course that you will have affiliate relationships with local kayak stores as well as outfitters, book and map sellers, camping gear vendors etc.

But if your site only includes kayaking techniques, maps of special areas, events etc, that you should of course have, you will be missing on making a real connection to the merchant and helping the visitor get something he needs to make kayaking safer, and more enjoyable or adventurous.

If you write about a stream with currents and mention how your paddle tether is a godsend when you felt you would lose the paddle and be up a creek, it is helpful information. So is discussing the relative merits of different kinds of kayak covers, and the fact that they're needed in certain months in your area to keep out spiders. Who knew? You have provided a service to your visitors, and done some pre-selling for your vendors. You don't need to mention a particular brand, unless there is a certain product that has no competition. How to Create Multiple Streams of Income Part 1

You've must have read the phrase "multiple streams of income" numerous times on your jouey searching for wisdom on the Inteet. Regarding to Robert G. Allen, multiple streams of income are the stock market, real estate and the Inteet. I prefer to add paycheck to this list as well. Most of us don't feel comfortable to give up the security of a steady income, at least not in the beginning.

During the next few months I will publish new articles about my very own experiences with building multiple streams of income. Although I just recently started, I have a lot to share and I hope I will inspire someone to avoid the mistakes I made, and still will make.

I wasted hours and hours searching for the almighty golden key to financial freedom. I spent a lot of money for worthless e-books and signed up to almost every newsletter there is. Until I had to switch email addresses. My inbox couldn't keep up with the massive stream of useless emails.

What did I lea so far? Somebody else got a little bit closer to financial freedom, certainly not me! I was in desperate need of either giving up or dramatically changing my strategy. I'm not a quitter and whatever strategy I used, if so, it must change or I will find myself in financial hell.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not looking to make money out of thin air. I actually don't believe in the get rich with no money schemes. The only person getting rich is the author of the book! Some of these strategies may work in theory, but I've never seen substantial results in the long run. I might be wrong on this one, if so, please send me your opinion and experience with this business strategy.

Here's another advice; it takes time, lots of it. Don't rush yourself into hasty decisions just because you think it is a hot deal. Do your homework and research the deal as good as possible. If this is the true "hot" deal, it will be around for a while. Otherwise it's just another rip off scheme and someone else is making the big bucks. If you come across these 30 days to success guides, give yourself at least 60 days to achieve your success. Remember, patience is one of the key factors to success. Read the guide in its entirety and slowly start implementing these suggestions into action. Always keep track on what you did and double check after a few days or weeks, if it's working. Make changes as necessary.

I really don't remember how I got started with the idea of building my own home business on the Inteet. I believe that I was searching for ways to increase web traffic to my real estate site. During my research I came across all these websites promising thousands of visitors to your site. Most of them are free, but you spend hours after hours to generate enough credits for your own site to be shown. And when the site is shown, guess who's looking at it? Another sleepless soul, who is looking to increase traffic to their site. This is not exactly the type of customer you're looking for.

After a while I thought, hmm, if I add a banner from a banner link exchange, then I will be able to trigger more targeted hits to my website. So I continued clicking night after night through these exchange services with little or no success. I wasted countless hours in front of the computer. My advice; stay away from these exchange services. Most of them are pure pyramid marketing schemes anyway. There are no real products or useful services offered by these sites.

At this point I started to discover the power of affiliate programs. And this, my friends, is the real deal! I'm not saying this just to get your attention; I'm speaking from experience. Affiliate programs come in any shape and form. Some are pure product reselling machines, others offer incentives for recruiting new affiliates and many are offering a combination of both. The real value behind this concept is; you get endless training material to sharpen your marketing skills. There are real products to sell and there is real money to make.

The mother of all affiliate programs is SFI. I joined them as soon as I leaed the details and the benefits of their program. Later on I read about Stone Evans and his incredible services he offers. In fact, Stone is to blame that I'm writing this article.

Joining an Affiliate Program is a great way to start eaing a sizeable income on the Inteet without many of the hassles that come with running your own business.

But the problem is… there are so much affiliate programs out there for you. In this article I will guide you to choose the most suitable and profitable Affiliate Program for you. I recommend you to follow this rule before choosing an Affiliate Program.

1. Find a great quality product or service

Remember that any recommendation you make will reflect directly on you. If you recommend a great quality product, the people you recommended will always trusted you and be interested in future recommendations that you make. If you recommend a bad quality product, and I'll guarantee that they will likely hesitate to act on any offers you recommend.

Don't get greedy. Only recommend products that you truly believe in.

2. Look for a program that offers top commissions.

I think it's perfectly reasonable for you to expect to be paid 30% to 50% of the profits on each product sold. 5% to 10% is very low. You should look for companies who understand the "lifetime value" of new customers you refer and appreciate your efforts.

Only consider joining programs that show a similar level of respect for their affiliates.

3. Make sure they have a high sales conversion ratio

Make sure that the affiliate program is tuing a reasonable number of visitors into sales. If not, then your efforts directing traffic to their website will be completely wasted. A 1% conversion ratio (1 out of every 100 visitors) is quite good, 2%+ is better.

4. Be sure you'll be credited for every sales you make

You should find out what kind of tracking software the Affiliate Program that you're interested in joining uses. You MUST look for a program that uses quality affiliate tracking software that is reliable and tracks ALL (online, by phone, fax, mail orders, etc), because there are many companies only track online orders, and this means that you will never get credit for anywhere from 5% - 10% of your affiliate sales!.

Make sure they have a high sales conversion ratio and a good tracking software.

5. They should allow you to access your sales statistics real time

What I mean is that the Affiliate Program you join should give you a special useame and password that you can use to access your own personal affiliate sales information right on their website. Many affiliate programs have done this, you don't have to worry about that, but incase they don't, you should reconsider to join them.

6. Look for a program that teaches you to maximize your affiliate sales

A good affiliate program will provide you with everything you need to be successful. They'll provide you with traffic-generating banners, text-links, and recommendation letter templates. They'll tell you which techniques work well in which circumstances.

Find an affiliate program that is similarly dedicated to educating their affiliates.

7. Make sure they are reputable.

I still feel I should mention the importance of doing business with a reputable company. I know many people who have worked really hard, made a lot of sales for a company, but then they have never been paid or forced to wait months and months to get their money, I've been there too. If you have any conces about a company that you are thinking of doing business with, ask for references and do some checks on them before you join them.

8. Be sure to read all contracts and agreements.

Before you join any affiliate program, just make sure that you read all contracts and agreements very carefully. Pay very close attention to exclusivity clauses in the agreement. Be careful that any affiliate agreement or contract you sign does not restrict you.

What makes your site special? Do you have enough deep content that the search engines serve you up first? Or do you have little conventional content, but the word of mouth of your target audience who finds value in the community you have created? Perhaps you advertise in offline venues that are well-targeted. Whatever the reason, you're cleared the first hurdle. Now you just have to get your visitors to come back on a regular basis.

Obviously repeat visits are good – you have the chance to showcase your own newest products, or the newest content you have developed. But repeat visits are critical if you are to be a success as a publisher or affiliate site.

Because people buy after five or six impressions, it is important that you not only attract new users to your site, but that you get repeat visits from the same site visitors. People need to find your site either useful or fun, or, ideally, both.

There are ways you can do this, and not be just a "utility" type of site. Take, for instance, the maker of a prescription drug, who has set up a website. Many people don't realise that affiliate software has more uses than just "simple" affiliate management. It can be used to track activity (including conversions and ROI) of campaigns running on AdWords, Overture, or anywhere else.

First question is - why should you do it?

Most of the advertising systems do have some kind of sale conversion tracking.

This is true, but there are some benefits when you use your affiliate system to do the work:

You can compare the results of different campaigns

Affiliate software (if it's good one) will allow you to easily view reports of clicks, sales and conversions for given campaign. You can easily find out what pays of and what not.

Moreover, by comparing conversion ratio of different campaigns you can identify the weak points and try to improve them.

What if you'll find out that your Overture campaign converts much less visitors into buyers than AdWords?

If you know this, you can try to improve it. And when you make a change, the affiliate system will tell you again if your sale conversion increased or not, and how it compares to others.

No need to include multiple sale tracking codes

It is simply less work. When you have affiliate software installed, it already contains the sale-tracking snippet.

So you don't need to edit your pages and place the sale conversion codes for every new advertising system you plan to use, you'll simply use the affiliate's system build-in sale tracking capability.

Google AdWords and Overture do have sale conversion tracking, but what if you buy campaign somewhere else? Or banner placement, sponsored listing, etc.?

My company uses multiple marketing channels, for example we pay for sponsored listing on HotScripts. If we don't track it with affiliate system, we would have no idea how many visitors HotScripts sends to our page, and how many of them actually made a purchase.

It depends on the affiliate software you use, but most of them will have this functionality.

First of all, what can be tracked?

pay-per-click campaigns on Google AdWords, Yahoo Marketing and similar

etc.

The principle is simple - you should create a special "virtual" affiliate for every system or campaign you want to track. Then use its affiliate link instead of your website URL in the campaign destination.

Because the advertisement on exteal website points to your site through affiliate link, affiliate system will track the clicks and purchases originating from this source as if it is your affiliate.

You can easily control how many clicks they are really sending to you, get the conversion ratio, etc.

Exact measurement of campaign results will enable you to effectively plan your marketing campaigns and improve your marketing techniques.

Example - Tracking Google AdWords step by step

Create "virtual" affiliate for Google - go to admin panel of your affiliate program and manually create new affiliate called Google 'Adwords'.
You can specify any affiliate details, it is not a real affiliate and only you can access it.

Get the affiliate link - log in to affiliate control panel of new affiliate and get the affiliate's link. You can use link from code of any banner, or you could have created special banner for this before.
Affiliate link usually looks like http://www.yoursite.com/?ref=affiliateid

Use affiliate link in AdWords campaign - open your Google control panel, and rewrite the ad destination URL with the affiliate's link.

That's all. Now the traffic and conversions coming from Google AdWords will be tracked. Because you used affiliate link as a destination URL, the traffic from Google AdWords will be sent to this link.

Google acts as your affiliate, but because it is virtual account for your own use, you don't need to pay it any commission from affiliate system.

I have a secret I have got to reveal. Keep this to yourself.

Do you notice when you visit most sales page, they have an "affiliates sign up" or "make money here" link which directs you to their affiliate sign up page? Imagine this scenario, Thomas visits the site through your affiliate link, he reads the sales copy and is convinced but the price $79 is a little steep. He sees the "affiliates sign up" link and clicks. He realizes he could get at 60% discount with the commission and so he signs up with clickbank and buys through his own link.

The vendors do not want this to happen right? Wrong! Fact is, they had intended to sell at $31(40%) of the price and so set it at $79. The affiliate link was prominently displayed so visitors could easily see it and sign up and get the discount. This make the buyer thinks he has got into a "winning" situation but in fact the vendor got the sale he wanted and an affiliate at the same time.

Armed with this knowledge you should be able to be more disceing when selecting the products to promote. That said, here are some ways which you can profit from Clickbank.

Tip 1

Criteria for selecting your products. Never select a product that is priced too high, pays out commission below 50% and a sales copy that sucks. Amazingly, there are affiliates promoting these products still!

Are Affiliates Not Social

This question could be extended by "and inteet marketers in general". The answer to that question was widely believed to be "Yes".

The Misconception
People tend to think of an Affiliate as a tech savvy geek that spends day and night to find ways to promote a big merchant and make big bucks via the commission eaed for the sales made by the referred customers; a person that is very protective about everything he does, that generates at least a few sales or leads. You probably also thought of the people that run the Affiliate Program for a Merchant, who are called Affiliate Managers or short AM's, are snobby suits that try to use the legions of their affiliates to generate easy money for their employers.Socializing would almost be unthinkable if this is true. Who is going to socialize with his maid? Right?

This picture of affiliates and their counterpart on the merchant side seems to be a misconception that might be true only in some rare cases.

It did not took very long after affiliate programs became more and more popular that Affiliate Forums emerged, especially when Amazon.com launched their Affiliate Program (Amazon called it Associate Program) in 1996 which allowed instant signup and approval for anybody and his uncle in combination with the growing trend of creating personal home pages on free hosters like Geo Cities.

Early Communities, Forums
Forums like the AssociatePrograms.com Forum , RevBoard, ABestWeb, Affiliate Boards and Affiliate Marketing Forum at WebProWorld were frequented by affiliates using nick names or just the first name to exchange general information about programs, commissions and that sort of things.

Posting of Affiliate Site URL's was a "don't do it" rule although most forums did not specifically prohibited the posting of links, if related to the discussed topic. Some had the rule not to post somebody else's Affiliate URL. The fear for copy cats and the potential loss of hard eaed commissions was wide spread and sometimes also well founded. Anything that was giving hints to the identity of the affiliate and it's website was avoided by most members in the public forum areas.

That affiliates are social could already be seen in the "off topic" or "midnight chat" sections of the Affiliate Marketing Forums, if such a category was available. Towards the end of last year sites started to emerge that supported and even encouraged social mingling between affiliates and also affiliate managers and networks.

The New Trend, Social Netwoks
At the end of December 2005 launched the social site RetuOnAffiliate.com (short RoA). RoA is a social community site following the trend of general social sites like MySpace.com, but was created solely for People in the Affiliate Marketing Industry. If it would be correct, that the people in that industry, especially the affiliates, are not social, sites like RoA would vanish quickly because of lack of users to support it.

This is not the case, quite the opposite. RoA grew it's member base within 3 month to over 2,000. Of course is a lot of the communication related to inteet marketing, but the communication goes far beyond that.Personal Information and thoughts are shared in public message boards, special interest groups, blogs and mail. Every member has also his own blog, message board, book mark collection and can create freely new groups for others to join. Members that disguise their origin and blog their personal pages are the exception.

Another example for an Affiliate Marketing Community site is the Affiliate Summit 2006 East Social Network created for the attendees of the Affiliate Summit Conference which will be held in Florida on July 9-11 later this year.

Fazit
I am convinced, that this trend will continue in the years to come and have a major impact on the affiliate marketing industry. Connecting through social networks allows marketers to get to know each other much better and help with the creation of new professional and personal relationships.

Problems between merchants and affiliates will probably solved much quicker and easier without escalating as much as they used to in the past, because instead of Affiliate xxx having a problem with yyy, John has a problem with the Merchant Jane is working for.

If you ask yourself the question, who would you rather do business with, the one you don't know or the one you can associate a face with and know personally through interactions on community sites? If the business reasons are not overwhelmingly leaning towards one of them, I would go with the one I know personally. If you've been building an opt-in list, you are on the right track to making a living online. If you have yet to start building your list, you need to get started right away! A quality list is worth a lot of money, if you know how to use it. Notice the word 'quality'….not 'quantity!' A list does not have to be huge to tu a profit. Again, if you have a quality list, you can tu out a quality newsletter, and then you can lea how to use your newsletter to promote your affiliate programs.

First you should note that the newsletter must be of high quality. Just sending your list advertisements will not cut it in today's competitive online market place. Your subscribers do not want advertisements – they can find those anywhere. What they want is quality up-to-date information. As a marketer, you produce that information, and build the information around one of your affiliate programs.

Start by choosing a product that you feel your highly qualified list will be interested in. Really think about this long and hard, and make sure that you pick a quality product or service. If you've used your newsletter in the right way up to this point, your subscribers will put a lot of faith in your recommendations – and you are about to make a recommendation.

With that product, write an article. The article should not be about the product – unless it is a review of the product. Instead, it should pertain to something that relates to the use of that product. For instance, if you are advertising a shampoo, you would probably want to write an article about hair care – not about the shampoo.

You can work the product into the article in various ways. For instance, if you are just promoting one product with your article, at the end of the article, you might suggest to your readers that using brand x – with your affiliate link – will help them achieve better results or that you've found that this brand is better than that brand, or something along those lines.

If you are promoting several products within one article, spread them about throughout the text, but make sure that your article doesn't become one big advertisement – and avoid promoting too many products within one article. Also avoid including more than one article in each issue of your newsletter. You want your visitors attention to remain focused – and if you give them information overload in one issue, your chances of making any sales at all diminish!

It is vital that you use a professional link cloaker. You do not want your affiliate link to look like an affiliate link! A link cloaker will change the text of your link, but when clicked, the linked cloak will take your reader to the site with the product that you are promoting – and you will get credit for the sale. Using a link cloaker also prevents link hijacking – where someone exchanges your affiliate ID with their own affiliate ID in the link.

Be personable with your readers. Become their friend. Let them know that you are looking out for them, and that you are interested in helping them achieve something. Developing a relationship with your readers is the key to getting them to trust your recommendations.

Now, I do recommend that you have the rest of the website already set up before you do this because Google will use it to judge whether or not you qualify. It's usually pretty easy to qualify as long as your website looks good, serves a purpose and doesn't have any broken links.

Incorporation Of Your Articles

Once you've got all of these components together, it's time to make as many webpages as you can. I recommend including some articles from any of the article sites that allow you to reprint their articles. This will help give you more content based on your theme. This also helps you rank better for your particular theme in the search engines.

You've Got Your eBay In My Clickbank!

Set up the homepage with a large eBay block of listings front and center, which you already should have from eBay's affiliate program. Down the outside columns you should add themed links from Clickbank products, Google Adsense ads, and links to your articles. Include as many themed pages of Clickbank links as there are for your theme. If you want to, create other pages for other Clickbank links you are interested in promoting.

Anyway You Slice It, You Make Money

Ever wondered how the big boys make so much money with affiliate programs? Here's some ideas to get you started on your own affiliate marketing business.

You will need to spend some time researching the best paying affiliate programs. Affiliate programs that I have used are Commission Junction and Clickbank. Commission Junction sell hard goods whilst Clickbank sell information products and software. Both programs have some high paying affiliate products.

Before you create any web pages or choose a domain name, you need to do some research. Take time to decide what sort of product you might wish to sell and then locate an affiliate program related to your chosen product. For example, if you have an interest in dogs, then you might choose an affiliate e-book about "Dog Training". Make a note of all the relevant products and what your commission will be.

How to find your affiliate program

Commission Junction

You can search their programs by advertiser name or products. Hence, in our example of "dogs", you could search on the "products" box for this and find merchants who are selling this.

They also have a very useful tool called the EPC, which reflects how much has been eaed for every 100 clicks. For example, if the EPC is $5, this would mean that for every 100 clicks, Commission Junction has paid out $5.

Now it's just simple maths, if you refer 100 customers to this program each day, you can expect to ea $5, 200 customers eas $10 and so on.

This is just a rough estimate of traffic, but it certainly helps in choosing one merchant over another, when they're selling the same or similar products.

Also, it will depend on how relevant the advert is to your site. In our example, a "vegetarian dog food" advert placed on a site about dogs is likely to be more successful than one placed on a site about home cooking!

Clickbank

Visit CBmall.com to search the products that Clickbank have available. Again, you might search for "dogs" and come up with "dog training" products to market online.

Buying traffic

If you are selling an e-book for which you get paid a $25 commission fee and you are converting 1% of your visitors into sales, you can afford to pay up to 25 cents per click. Ideally you'd pay less than this so that you can make a profit!

The last few weeks have been taken up with preparations for the launch of my latest online venture.

You may recall in a recent email how I started to dabble in affiliate reselling and met with immediate and albeit unexpected success.

Now I am taking the experiment a quantum leap forward with the launch of a portal website featuring 12,000+ ClickBank products plus a sprinkling of the best of the latest affiliate reselling opportunities.

Window dressing the storefront

I have already tweaked the system so that at will I can do an instant makeover of the 12 featured products.

For a month I shall leave them as they are to monitor retus.

Thereafter I shall rotate these from a choice of 100 alteatives

Will surfers use the search box in my system's portal?

I think the answer must be 'yes'; especially when you consider this endorsement from no less than personage than a ClickBank Vice President,

Affiliating Correctly Only Work With the Winners

You need to do a bit of research on which affiliate programs you choose to work with. Why work hard to make $10 when the same amount of work could have netted you $100? Choose your affiliate relationships wisely.

First of all make sure that you are targeting the right market. Don't try to sell nursing shoes on a site that is all about hunting and fishing. Even if you were able to get someone to look at your product, the odds are pretty low that you are going to make a sale (stranger things have happened I suppose). Target your market correctly. If you are going to pursue pay per click advertising (which I highly recommend), then choose your affiliation according to the criteria outlined below.

How can I determine which affiliate programs are the most profitable?

Here are some points to consider when establishing an affiliate relationship:

Look for at least $30-$50 per sale or signup. If you consider that you may want to use pay per click advertising, you must have this type of retu.

Look for products or services that pay you for the lifetime of the sale. Talk about residual income! Several products that require a monthly subscription will continue to pay you for the life of the sale.

Promote established, trusted brands. I promote companies like ING (through Commission Junction), and Buy.com (through Linkshare)

Selling reports and products that can be downloaded online can be very profitable as well. It's not unusual to find commissions approaching nearly 50% for these types of products.

I understand the concepts, but what should I sell - Specifically?

Step ONE - You must join (OK, should join) the following programs:

Commission Junction – As far as I know, they offer the biggest affiliate network at this time. They also have very nice information about each company that tells you how much they pay out per 100 visitors to their affiliate sites. Target these companies products.

Linkshare – They've been paying me for years for the customers I send them. Highly recommended.

AdReporting – Big commissions, lots of clients. Join all three of these programs.

Step TWO - After joining Commission Junction, take a look at the best paying products and services. Use these products and services to target your companies on Linkshare and AdReporting.

You will quickly find that the best paying products/services are:

Mortgages
Credit Cards
Office Supplies
Web Hosting
Software Products
